I am one of the biggest Battlestar fans ever. I faithfully watched each episode, miniseries, online miniepisode… you name it, I was there for BSG. I loved the dynamics between the characters, the rich storytelling, and the brilliant mythos. When the series ended I was bummed (and maybe a tinch disappointed at the finale) but with great hope and excitement began to anticipate the launch of Caprica. When the “pilot” came out on DVD, I had it the first day. I plopped down on my couch and expected brilliance.

I’m still expecting it, but I’m not totally sure it’s going to happen. I have watched three episodes of the new series (I tivo’ed the rest) and for me, it’s like pulling teeth to watch. I am not as into it as I’d like to be, and I think that there’s something about it that feels unpolished, unrefined, and a little bit cheesy.

I’ve hypothesized that the issue at hand is maybe I’m too close to BSG. Maybe the wounds left by the series departure are too fresh, too real, and I’m still in mourning. Maybe I expected Caprica to have the same gritty, edgy feel– or maybe I just expected too much out of the series. Either way, my jury’s still out. I am going to try to watch the other eps, but I feel like if you’re kind of suffering through them, maybe you shouldn’t continue on. When Eureka brings you a bit more joy than Caprica (and Eureka is a rerun) then things aren’t looking up. But maybe that’s just me. What are your thoughts about the show?

With the new Mummy movie in full force in theaters around the world we thought a quick look at the plot wouldn’t hurt (in case you have been under a rock lately.)

What did we think about this blockbuster? Great movie, horrible acting. It was was hard to really get into this film because of a few forced moments that really didn’t “sell”. The new guy playing the son of Brandon Frasier’s character is not likely to receive an Oscar Nomination for his work. Worth a watch simply for the visual effects though.

Source: robcohenthemummy.com

The blockbuster global Mummy franchise takes a spellbinding turn as the action shifts to Asia for the next chapter in the adventure series, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Brendan Fraser returns as explorer Rick O’Connell to combat the resurrected Han Emperor (Jet Li) in an epic that races from the catacombs of ancient China high into the frigid Himalayas. Rick is joined in this all-new adventure by son Alex (newcomer Luke Ford), wife Evelyn (Maria Bello) and her brother, Jonathan (John Hannah). And this time, the O’Connells must stop a mummy awoken from a 2,000-year-old curse who threatens to plunge the world into his merciless, unending service.

Doomed by a double-crossing sorceress (Michelle Yeoh) to spend eternity in suspended animation, China’s ruthless Dragon Emperor and his 10,000 warriors have laid forgotten for eons, entombed in clay as a vast, silent terra cotta army. But when dashing adventurer Alex O’Connell is tricked into awakening the ruler from eternal slumber, the reckless young archaeologist must seek the help of the only people who know more than he does about taking down the undead: his parents.

As the monarch roars back to life, our heroes find his quest for world domination has only intensified over the millennia. Striding the Far East with unimaginable supernatural powers, the Emperor Mummy will rouse his legion as an unstoppable, otherworldly force…unless the O’Connells can stop him first. Now, in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the trademark thrills and visually spectacular action of the Mummy series will be redefined for a new generation.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is helmed by director Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious, xXx) and written by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (Spider-Man 2, television’s Smallville). Reprising their roles as producers in the series are Bob Ducsay, Sean Daniel, Stephen Sommers and James Jacks.
